Deployment Project Week # 5

Crochet

What is a crochet?

Crochet (pronounced /kroʊˈʃeɪ/) is a process of creating fabric from yarn using a crochet hook. The word is derived from the French word "crochet", meaning hook. Crocheting, similar to knitting, consists of pulling loops of yarn through other loops. Crochet differs from knitting in that only one loop is active at one time (the sole exception being Tunisian crochet), and that a crochet hook is used instead of knitting needles.

I totally copied and pasted it from wikipedia. haha! It makes my life easier.

I really enjoyed crocheting. I learned about different yarns, sizes of hooks and different kinds of crochet(from double crochet to treble crochet to fastening). I crocheted some flowers and butterflies. I crocheted one heart but I think it wasn't great. I got the patterns here.

I love the butterflies!

Deployment Project Week # 4

Sugar Cookies

It's my second attempt to decorate sugar cookies. Boy, I admire those people who makes cookies and decorate them. It's a serious business. You gotta have lots of patience.

This week's project was supposed to be about crocheting but I am still working on that project. So, I decided to bake some hand shaped sugar cookies and decorated them to look like turkeys because it's Thanksgiving week.

So here it is.

I subsituted to teach Sunbeam class again at church so I wrapped the cookies to give to the kids.

Count your blessings.

I hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Don't forget to thank God for all the blessings He has given you.

By the way, here's a picture of the cookies I decorated for the very first time.

I made them last Summer.

Donating my hair for the 2nd time

I am so thankful to have a healthy hair. I did my best to take a really good care of it so that I can donate it again. The first time I donated my hair was 3 years ago and I donated it to Locks of Love.

This time, I decided to get a hair cut really short. When I was growing up in the Philippines, my mom never wanted me and my sisters to have long hair. She told us we looked like we're sick or something. Haha! I know, my Mama is weird. I love you Mama! So when I went to BYU-Hawaii, I didn't really have money to get a haircut so I let my hair grew. That was my first year to have a really long hair.

So Monday morning came, I asked my friend Tania if she could babysit Arianna so I can get my haircut. Of course she said yes because she's awesome!

The "before the haircut" pictures.

The lady who cut my hair was cool. I showed her a picture how I wanted my hair to be cut. She measured my hair and said, "Wow, you're donating 15 inches long". She told me if it was my first time donating hair and I said no. She asked me if someone knew I was getting a really short haircut and told her, "my husband knew but he didn't know how short and a friend of mine knew".

The haircut began......

Tada! My face looks fat but I don't care. I am glad my hair is on it's way for a good cause.

and the bangs is back. LOL

Well, I haven't heard back from my husband about my hair. LOL. I am loving my short hair. I don't have to do anything after I get done taking a shower. I don't even have to blow dry it. Maybe, that's why my hair is healthy.

Deployment Project Week #3

 Apron

The very first time I sewed an apron was in high school. My mom helped me and she taught me how to use a sewing machine. We had an old fashioned sewing machine back home.

Five years ago, my husband bought me a sewing machine. Of course, he bought me an electric one. LOL. I use it once in awhile when his uniforms are needed to be sewed. I remember, I even sewed a blanket for our dogs.

So this time, I sewed Arianna's first apron. I think I did a pretty good job sewing it but I think, it would be nice if I added a pocket or something. And it's kinda long for her. I guess I don't have to make her a new apron until she grows up a little taller.

Scrabble

When I got married, I wasn't into homemaking. I didn't cook that much, didn't decorate my house whatsoever. But since I had my daughter, I became a better person, I think I should say, I became a mother, a wife and a HOMEMAKER. Haha! I kinda feel bad because I feel like I didn't do much to my husband but I know he forgave me already. =) He supports my cooking, baking, crafting and decorating our house and it's a good thing.

Everytime I go to my friend's house, she always decorate her house and I love it. I think she decorate her house every season, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. I admire how she keeps her house neat and tidy and cute. So I decided to decorate my house BUT, I don't have any decorations at all.

So, when I was cleaning our closet, I found that we have the scrabble. I saw that my friend uses it as a decoration at her house. Here's a link and you check out her BLOG.

I bought the two candle holders on sale. yeah, we have to start somewhere right?

I am so thankful for my husband and my daughter. I am also thankful for my family and friends who are always there for me. I also wanna extend my gratitude to all the veterans who sacrifice a lot for our freedom.
So thankful for whoever invented the scrabble. LOL.

Deployment Project Week # 2

TUTUS

I finally finished Arianna's tutus. One of my friends from church gave me some tips on how to make them. She's an awesome lady. Nancy started posting pictures on facebook of the tutus that she made for her grandkids and I told her that Arianna doesn't have one. She organized a tutu making party at her house but I wasn't able to go. =( She makes really NICE tutus. So, by the help of Nancy and youtube, I was able to make not one but TWO tutus. Yay!

White and American Beauty

Grape and purple

I can't wait for Arianna to wear these. Well, the purple one is kinda big so she has to wait a couple of months to wear it but the pink one is perfect for her size.

I survived another week of husband being deploy. I am grateful for my daughter and my husband. Without them, I would be worthless. Few more weeks and daddy will be home. =)

Weaning 101

Weaning Arianna is one of the hardest things I've done. She is 16 months and still breastfeeding. I've been searching online and asking friends on how to wean a baby. I got alot of different answers. Then, I read from a magazine that it's harder for mothers to wean their babies when the babies turn 18 months. So, I was like, uhm, I need to wean Arianna NOW.

So today, I decided to put Arianna in her crib for a nap. I made sure she's full and diaper is not wet.

The weaning began. I have my phone on me so I can time her crying. She cried for about 35 minutes and she fell asleep. It was really hard for me to see her cry that long. I really felt sorry for her. I didn't close her bedroom door all the way. There's a little crack so I could see her and it's not a good idea at all. I felt really bad but I still managed to be tough.

I took a couple of pictures using my phone and the camera on my phone sucks! It's really blurry. But, when Arianna finally slept, I ran in her bedroom really quick to grab my nice camera. =)

She's actually sleeping that time. Sleeping while standing. That's a talent right there. LOL

Some more crying but her eyes were closed.

A clear picture of Arianna being weaned. lol

Tada! Finally asleep.

Deployment Project Week # 1

My husband left for deployment on October 26th. I decided to do at least one project per week until he comes home.

So for week #1's project I made cupcakes. My friend Tania asked me if I know how to make cupcakes. She needed about 24 cupcakes for her daughter's birthday party that happened on Halloween. Yup, Leilani was born on Halloween. Anyway, she gave me the ingredients I needed. I told her that I don't have my own recipe for chocolate cake yet so I used chocolate cake box mix. I also let her know that I am not a professional baker. Haha! But I tried my best.

So here it is. Chocolate cupcakes with marshmallow frosting.

I added orange sugar sprinkles to add color.

She made cupcake toppers. She printed it then stick it to toothpicks.

Marshmallow frosting
1 stick butter
1jar marshmallow creme
3 cups confectioner sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp corn syrup

Beat butter on high using an electric mixer until creamy.
Add marshmallow creme, beat until the butter and the creme mix completely.
Add confectioner sugar slowly then the vanilla and corn syrup. Beat until smooth.
